HOW TO PREPARE FOR A PERSONAL PHOTOSHOOT / PORTRAIT SESSION?

HOW TO GET READY FOR A PERSONAL PHOTOSHOOT / PORTRAIT SESSION?

Most of the inquiries I get, start with “I am actually really camera-shy, is this ok if I have no previous photoshoot experience?”.

YES. OF COURSE IT’S OK.

When you get a personal photoshoot, you are getting the experience first of all for yourself. You don’t need to impress me, you don’t need to impress anyone. The main objective here is for us to come together and create a beautiful experience for you with an awesome outcome. And I will do everything I could to help you to relax and feel confident during this process!

STEP 1. COMMUNICATION

Before we even start planning the photoshoot, I always want to get to know you first. Cause this photo session is not about me - it’s about you, your personality, what you’re going through right now that brought you to me :) I use strategic storytelling approach even for small personal projects, yes.

We might meet, or get on a call or I’ll just send you some questions to answer by e-mail. After that, I’ll start thinking of ideas.

STEP 2. MOODBOARD

To share my vision for your personal photoshoot, I create a moodboard. A moodboard is an inspirational file with references, it helps us to project into the vibe of the photoshoot. The ambiance, colors, style, poses… I want you to be able to imagine what I got in mind.

In this moodboard I usually describe what inspired me for my decisions, where do I want to shoot and how I would like you to be styled for the photoshoot. Sometimes I even give suggestions from the current collections of the stores, or we could always figure something out of what you’ve got in your closet.

STEP 3. PREPARATION / OUTFIT

It is very important for the outcome of the portrait session, that you followed my recommendations closely. Especially when it comes to the colors of clothes. (Cause colors and light are 80% of a successful photoshoot).

And here as some small things that my clients often need but tend to forget to take care of :

• A spare pair of shoes for the outfit change.

• Socks that look good with the outfit. (The most commonly forgotten detail).

• Pay attention to your underwear. Especially if you’re wearing something semi-transparent or close to skin. Or if we’re shooting by the sea or a lake and you might want to get in water :)

• A hair brush, a scrunchie and a small mirror just in case.

STEP 3. PREPARATION / MOOD

If you are really stressed about the photoshoot, here’s what you could do beforehand to feel a little more confident.

Prepare a playlist that puts you in the mood !

It’s so much easier to relax and have fun when there’s music playing ! Especially YOUR favorite music. So turn on that playlist, get in front of a mirror and have fun! Try different poses, facial expressions, dance, fool around — get comfortable with your body :) The crazier your moves get, the more unexpected and interesting the outcome will be.

"I feel like I am not photogenic..."

I want you to remember, that there’s no such thing as a “non photogenic” or “an ugly” person. But there are bad lights, shitty moods, colors that don’t match and people that aren’t patient enough to discover YOUR angles. But with all the preparation and my guidance during the personal photoshoot, we will get the photos that you’ll be sending to your grandkids for the trend “this is what my granny / grandad looked like when they were my age, oh, I was born in the wrong era”.
